2024 Scholarship List

The Foundation for Amateur Radio, Inc. will be administering the scholarships listed below for the upcoming academic year, ranging from $500 to $20,000 each. All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Hold a valid US or foreign amateur radio license
  • Be enrolled, or have been accepted for enrollment, at an accredited university, college, or technical/trade school
  • Applicant must submit a recent transcript covering their most recent school term
  • Applicants who attend a school located outside of the United States must enclose a brochure describing the school

Here are the scholarships to be awarded (awards may change after confirmation from sponsors):

Ten-Ten International NetTen-Ten International Net, Inc., or 10-10 for short, is an organization of amateur radio operators dedicated to maintaining high levels of amateur radio communications on the 10-meter amateur band (28.0-29.7 MHz). Established in 1962, 10-10 has grown continuously since that day, with some ups and downs according to the numbers of sunspots and the openness of the band.
Ten-Ten International Net, Inc. is offering three (3) scholarships worth $2,000 each.

  • There is no restriction on the course of study.
  • Applicant must seek an Associate, Bachelors, or Graduate degree.
  • Non-US amateurs are eligible.

The Ralph V. “Andy” Anderson K0NL Scholarship awards $1,000.

  • There is no restriction on the course of study.
  • Preference will be given to applicants pursuing a degree in journalism.
  • Applicant must be a resident of the United States or its territories.
  • Applicant must be seeking a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Applicant must have a General Class license or higher.

The Rose Eileen Bills N2RE Memorial Scholarship awards $2,000.

  • There is no restriction on the course of study.
  • Applicant must be a resident of the United States or its territories.
  • Applicant must be seeking a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Applicant must have a General Class license or higher.

The R. G. and J. R. Chichester Memorial Scholarship awards $2,000.

  • Applicant must be members of the ARRL, and must be recommended by an ARRL-affiliated club (they need not be a member of the club. To locate an ARRL-affiliated club near you, go to http://www.arrl.org/find-a-club.
  • There is no restriction on the course of study.
  • Preference will be given to Texas residents living in the metropolitan areas of Austin, Kerrville, or San Antonio.
  • Applicant must be seeking a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Applicant must have a General Class license or higher.

Columbia Amateur Radio AssociationThe Columbia Amateur Radio Association, or CARA, is an IRS-listed 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in support of amateur radio in Howard County, Maryland. CARA offers many opportunities for licensed operators as well as those interested in learning more about amateur radio.
The Columbia Amateur Radio Association is offering two scholarships.
The Art Goldman N3OY Memorial Scholarship awards $2,000.
The Don Rees W4VQA Memorial Scholarship awards $2,000.

  • Applicant must be a US citizen.
  • Applicant must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or a certificate from a trade or technical school.
  • Preference will be given to Maryland residents.

Free State Amateur Radio ClubThe Free State Amateur Radio Club, K3IVO, located in Laurel, Maryland, is offering a scholarship worth $2,000.

  • Applicant must be a US citizen.
  • Applicant must reside in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or West Virginia.
  • Applicant must be pursuing an Associate, Bachelor’s, or Graduate degree from a college or university in the United States.

Foundation for Amateur RadioThe Foundation for Amateur Radio (FAR) is sponsoring two Silent Key (SK) Memorial Scholarships worth $5,000 each.

  • Applicant must be a US resident.
  • Applicant must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree.

Robert Michael, N3FAMurgas Amateur Radio ClubThe Robert Michael, N3FA Memorial Scholarship presented by the Murgas Amateur Radio Club awards $500.

  • Applicant’s home address must be in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Applicant must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree from a college or university in the United States.

The Lawrence E. and Thelma J. Norrie Memorial Scholarship awards $2,500.

  • Applicant must be a US resident.
  • Preference will be given to students with Junior, Senior, or Graduate student standing
  • Preference will be given to students with an academic grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4-point scale
  • Preference will be given to students pursuing a Bachelor’s or higher degree in science or engineering.

The Phil-Mont Mobile Radio ClubThe Phil-Mont Mobile Radio Club, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable organization located in Warminster, Pennsylvania, is sponsoring two scholarships.
The Claude H. Haring, Jr., W3IIM Memorial Scholarship awards $1,000.
The James Fisher, AJ3DI Memorial Scholarship awards $2,000.

  • Expanded residency requirement this year: applicant’s home address may be in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, or the Southern New Jersey (SNJ) ARRL section.
  • Applicant must intend to seek a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree, or attend a technical or trade school.

Quarter Century Wireless AssociationThe Quarter Century Wireless Association (QCWA) was founded in 1947 to promote friendship and cooperation among Amateur Radio operators who were licensed at least a quarter century ago, and are licensed today.
The Quarter Century Wireless Association (QCWA) will award 16 scholarships, worth $3,000 each, for a total of $48,000.

  • Applicant must intend to seek an Associate, Bachelor’s, or Graduate degree.
  • There are no restrictions on residence or course of study. Non-US amateurs are eligible.
  • Applicant must be recommended by a member of the QCWA. Applicants from a previous scholarship year still require a recommendation letter from a QCWA member for the current application year.   • The awardee is required to submit a short biography, a recent head and shoulders photo, and a thank you note for QCWA to Rick Cooper W1ASK, at rick55cooper@gmail.com.

The Robert E. True Memorial Scholarship awards $1,000.

  • Applicant must be a resident of the state of Ohio.
  • Applicant must be seeking a Bachelor’s degree at a college or university in the United States.
  • Preference will be given to those pursuing courses in electrical engineering or electronic/computer technology.

The Yasme FoundationThe Yasme Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation organized to support scientific and educational projects related to amateur radio, including DXing (long distance communication) and the introduction and promotion of amateur radio in developing countries.
The Yasme Foundation is sponsoring a scholarship worth $5,000.

  • Applicant must have been licensed for at least two years prior to the application date end.
  • Applicant must have a General Class license or higher.
  • Applicant must be pursuing a degree in the sciences or engineering while attending an accredited four-year college or university in the United States or its possessions.
  • Applicant must demonstrate high academic achievement. Submission of a transcript is required for this award.

The Young Ladies Radio LeagueThe Young Ladies Radio League (YLRL) is an international non-profit organization of women amateur radio enthusiasts. It was founded in 1939 and is the longest running YL club in the world.
The Young Ladies Radio League (YLRL) is sponsoring three memorial scholarships.
The Ethel Smith, K4LMB, Memorial Scholarship awards $2,000.
The Mary Lou Brown, NM7N, Memorial Scholarship awards $2,000.
The Martha “Marte” Wessel, K0EPE, Memorial Scholarship awards $1,000.

  • Applicant must be female.
  • Applicant must have a Technician Class license or higher, or equivalent foreign authorization.
  • Applicant must intend to seek a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree from a college or university in the United States.
  • Preference will be given to students studying communications, electronics, or related arts and sciences.
  • There are no residence restrictions. Non-US amateurs are eligible.
  • The Ethel Smith, K4LMB and Mary Lou Brown, NM7N scholarships are intended for full-time students.
  • The Martha “Marte” Wessel, K0EPE scholarship is intended for a part-time student who is working full-time while attending classes.
